Built on Decades of Real-World Experience
Mark began his career in public accounting in 1984, earning his CPA license in 1988. In 1988, he joined a Northern Virginia firm where he would spend over two decades, ultimately becoming an equity partner and partner-in-charge of the audit department.
Over those years, Mark managed a book of business exceeding $1 million, led an audit department of up to eight professionals, and worked across a wide range of clients, from government contractors and nonprofits to closely held businesses and individuals. He supervised audits, prepared and oversaw tax returns across every entity type, and served as the firm's internal controller.
In January 2018, Mark founded MDM Management Consulting, LLC, trading the structure of a larger firm for the freedom to serve clients on his own terms. Since then, he has continued preparing tax returns for individuals, businesses, and nonprofits, while also providing contracted CFO and controller services for clients ranging from cybersecurity firms to a regional flooring company.
"I started my practice to give clients something the big firms often can't: a direct relationship with an experienced CPA who knows their situation and is there when they need answers."
Tax and accounting can be complicated. Mark's job is to make sure you understand what's happening, what it means for you, and what your options are, in plain language.

Working With Mark
What to Expect
Working with Mark isn't complicated. Here's how most client relationships take shape, from first conversation to long-term partnership.
You Reach Out
It starts with a phone call or email and you tell Mark what's going on, and he listens. Whether you're a new client or coming back after years elsewhere, the first conversation is about understanding your situation.
Mark Gets Up to Speed
Once you've decided to work together, Mark reviews your prior returns, financial records, or whatever context is relevant. He asks the questions that matter and flags anything that needs attention before work begins.
The Work Gets Done
Mark prepares your return, completes your engagement, or digs into the issue at hand. If something comes up during the process that affects your situation, he'll tell you. You won't find out later that something was missed.
You Walk Away Understanding It
Before anything is filed or finalized, Mark walks you through what was done and why. He welcomes questions. If something changed from last year, or if there's a planning opportunity worth knowing about, he'll bring it up.
The Relationship Continues
Tax season ends, but the relationship doesn't. Mark stays in touch through periodic updates on tax law changes that affect his clients, and he's available year-round when something comes up. He’s also proud to offer a library of resources to his clients, available to them 24/7.
Most of his clients have been with him for years and that continuity is something he takes seriously.
